Seleni’s Maternal Mental Health Intensive Two-course Bundle is an approved alternate course for Step 1 of the PMH-C.

In 2018, Postpartum Support International (PSI) created the first Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), a multi-step certification process for psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and affiliated professionals that makes them qualified to provide specialized care in perinatal mental health. The PMH-C program creates a structure for professional education and evaluation and a standardization of training and experience.

There is a unified exam for all, but the educational prerequisites must be completed in your specialty.

    2) Psychiatric specialty: Medical degree/Advanced Practice Nursing degree

    3) Affiliated professionals: Professional credential and/or specialized training

  • Completion of evidence-based perinatal mental health certificate training:

    1) Perinatal Mood & Anxiety Certificate Course: minimum 14 hours live, interactive online, or in-person; and

You must have provided services relevant to your specialty area; for example, psychological services for psychotherapy, psychiatric prescribing for psychopharmacology, practice-based work that directly involves perinatal mental health for affiliated professions.

You do not have to have two years of experience where you only worked with the perinatal population solely for two years, but rather that your two years of professional experience includes at least some work with this population.

  • You need to report six (6) hours per year or twelve (12) every two years of continuing education in perinatal mental health.
