Supporting Mothers In Need

NEW YORK – June 2020  When a child is born, most women believe this momentous day should be the happiest one of their lives. For many, it can be a day of fear, uncertainty or even tragedy. One out of ten pregnant women and new mothers experience depression, yet, mental health is still highly stigmatized and treatment is often inaccessible. Many women cannot afford the emotional support they need, impacting not only them, but also the families that depend on them.

Seleni was founded to create a space that felt safe, where mothers could come in and feel comfortable discussing their problems. The role as a mother requires tremendous compassion, dedication and above all that, love. But it can also be scary, challenging and overwhelming. For many women, help is not an option due to access or financial barriers.

During this unprecedented and uncertain time, we’re witnessing an immense spike in anxiety and depression among this vulnerable and vital population, especially in our under-served communities. The need today is greater than ever, and we want to do more. No one should be marginalized when it comes to mental health, and all individuals should be able to receive treatment with dignity.

We ask you to think about your time or a loved one’s time as expecting or new parents. Please consider supporting a pregnant woman or a new mom that is struggling. Your full donation will go towards paying for therapy sessions that will make a difference to her and her family.

When a mother is supported, she is better able to care for the people around her. And in effect, we build stronger and more resilient communities. Please join us today and follow this link to donate.
