Seleni Spotlight: Julie Paulino

July 2020 - Julie Paulino is the Office Manager and Clinical Coordinator at Seleni. She has been part of the team since 2019.

Tell us a bit about yourself.

Born and raised in New York, NY, I have been in healthcare for about five years. I started as a Medical Assistant in private practice, which was a great learning experience and good way to get my feet wet in healthcare administration. After working at Mount Sinai for almost three years as a Medical Secretary, I knew that I could thrive even more in healthcare. I was very happy when Seleni gave me the chance to demonstrate my skills.

What excites you most about being part of the Seleni family?

I have been with Seleni since December 2019, and I have to say it has been a great experience. I like that once we’ve been assigned a project the team is ready to help and come up with great ideas. The way Seleni dedicates time and effort to helping families is truly inspiring. Had I been familiar with Seleni earlier, it would have helped me with some of my own personal experiences. I am very excited to be working here and look forward to watching it grow.

How do you practice self-care?

Self-care for me is very important. It’s imperative to take time and think about your needs. I like to take an hour to myself every day. In that hour I watch my favorite show, go for a walk, or call my mom to catch up with her and find out anything new.

What is your favorite thing to do to wind down the day?

My favorite thing to do to wind down is baking or cooking dinner. I think it has a calming benefit to it. Reading the recipe and bringing it all together - that’s the most satisfying feeling, especially when it’s time to eat the delicious treats. I’m getting ready to bake as we speak!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

My grandmother always told me to learn how to be independent. She’s always been a hard-working single mom like my own mom. Both taught me that anything you set your mind to can be done - we just really have to want it.

What’s a quote that you carry with you to uplift yourself? – What quote inspires you?

“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it’s better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring” by Marilyn Monroe. I believe we are all perfect in different ways.
