Volunteer Spotlight: Pablo de la Madrid on Bridging Psychology, Tech, and Maternal Mental Health

The Seleni Institute is proud to partner with individuals who bring academic rigor, passion, and versatility to our work. This summer, we’re thrilled to welcome Pablo de la Madrid as our Programs Volunteer, a dynamic graduate student whose interdisciplinary background and dedication to maternal mental health make him a valuable addition to our team.

Pablo de la Madrid is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in Psychology in Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Originally from Mexico City, he brings both a global perspective and a deep curiosity about the emotional and psychological dimensions of reproductive health. His academic path took a meaningful turn after completing a specialized course in Perinatal Mental Health, which deepened his interest in the complexities of maternal mental health and the often-overlooked psychosocial factors that shape reproductive outcomes.

What sets Pablo apart is the range of experience he brings to this work. Pablo has built a robust career in project management, technology, and startups. This unique combination of analytical and interpersonal skills positions him to think creatively about program development, community outreach, and digital solutions that can scale the reach and impact of Seleni’s mission.

Championing Culturally Responsive Mental Healthcare

A core tenet of Pablo’s work, and one that resonates with Seleni’s values, is his dedication to culturally responsive mental health care. He is passionate about addressing the barriers that underserved communities face when seeking reproductive and maternal mental health support.

Through his volunteer role, Pablo is contributing to program development efforts that help Seleni expand its impact. From supporting the refinement of existing projects to assisting with the build-out of future programs, he approaches each task with thoughtfulness, curiosity, and a strong desire to learn.

A Future Leader in Reproductive Mental Health

Pablo's time at Seleni is not just an opportunity to give back, it is also a formative step in his journey toward becoming a mental health advocate. His academic work, professional background, and lived experiences converge in a way that reflects the kind of multidisciplinary thinking urgently needed to transform maternal and family mental healthcare.

We are honored to have Pablo as part of our Seleni community. His energy, insight, and commitment to equity are helping us move our mission forward, one project at a time.
