Getting to Know: Cassie Scheiner, MHC-LP
Before becoming a therapist, Cassie Scheiner, MHC-LP spent several years in the fast-paced world of digital media. But her curiosity about the human experience, and her desire to understand what drives people’s choices and emotions, led her in a new direction. Now, as a mental health counselor with a special interest in women’s mental health, Cassie supports her clients through life’s most meaningful and challenging transitions.
In the therapy room, Cassie’s style is warm, collaborative, and rooted in psychodynamic exploration. She helps clients understand the “why” behind their emotional patterns while offering practical tools they can use between sessions. Her priority is creating a space where clients can move at their own pace, one that feels safe, nonjudgmental, and grounded in genuine curiosity.
You grew up in New York and now practice here as a therapist and mom. How has the city and your own experiences shaped the way you show up for your clients?
Growing up and now raising my own family in New York has given me a deep appreciation for how full and demanding life here can feel. I understand the pressure, the pace, and the constant juggling because I live it too. I bring that perspective into the room with a lot of empathy and a very real sense of what it takes to show up for yourself in this city.
Before becoming a therapist, you spent several years working in media. What inspired you to make that career change?
My years in media taught me so much about people: how they communicate, what motivates them, and how differently personalities can show up under stress. The part of the job I connected with most was mentoring and supporting my team, and that opened the door to exploring deeper, more meaningful ways of helping. I’ve always been curious about psychology and human behavior, so shifting into therapy felt like a natural extension of the work I was already most drawn to.
How would you describe your approach to therapy and the kind of space you aim to create for clients?
My work is grounded in a psychodynamic foundation, but always with a focus on warmth, collaboration, and curiosity. I aim help clients build awareness of their patterns and develop insight into the “why” behind their feelings and behaviors, while also offering practical tools and strategies they can use day-to-day. My goal is to create a space where clients can explore more deeply and also feel supported in making tangible shifts.
“I meet clients where they are and move at a pace that feels comfortable for them. I’m warm, direct when it’s helpful, and always aim to be genuinely non-judgmental.”
Therapy can feel vulnerable at first. What helps your clients feel most comfortable and supported in sessions with you?
I meet clients where they are and move at a pace that feels comfortable for them. I’m warm, direct when it’s helpful, and always aim to be genuinely non-judgmental. I also acknowledge that it makes complete sense to feel vulnerable in the beginning. Building trust takes time, and the most important thing is finding the right therapist for you, whether that ends up being me or someone else.
Balancing work, parenting, and life in New York can be a lot. How do you find moments to recharge and care for yourself?
Mindfulness has become a simple but meaningful way for me to take care of myself, pausing to check in, notice what I’m feeling, and actually listen to what I need. I’ve also learned to use the small pockets of time I do have, even ten or fifteen minutes, more intentionally. Those mini breaks help me reset and show up more fully in the areas of my life that matter most.
Cassie is now accepting new clients for in-person and virtual therapy sessions. She brings a warm, steady presence to her work with individuals navigating anxiety, relationships, parenthood, or life transitions. Whether you’re seeking clarity, deeper self-understanding, or practical tools to feel more grounded, Cassie offers thoughtful, evidence-based care that meets you where you are.
