Prior to joining Seleni, Ms. Faría worked in Finance for over twenty years. Learn more about her background and personal take on the field of mental health.

What motivates you to work in this field?

After working many years in sales, relationship management and building partnerships, I was seeking to find more meaning in my work experience. I’ve enjoyed all my roles and have been aligned with the values of the companies and leadership that I have worked with in the past. However, it was important for me to serve a greater purpose. I find that applying your skills in work that has a social impact is very fulfilling.

What excites you most about being part of the Seleni family?

When I learned about Seleni’s mission, I was immediately drawn to it. I love that the organization is making a difference addressing issues that challenge our emotional health every day, no matter where you are in your individual journey or that of your family. Supporting the wellbeing of a mother or a father is so important for the wellbeing of the entire family. If not treated properly, a mental health issue can influence the wellbeing of generations. That is why it is so important to advocate, bring awareness, and educate to make an impact and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health that often deters people from seeking the help they need.

What is your favorite podcast, movie, book, or magazine, related to the field of mental health?

There are so many movies I enjoy related to mental health, like “Inside Out”, that teaches young kids about our different emotions and how each one serves a purpose. Recently, I gravitate more towards documentaries that bring awareness on the mental health issues we are facing as a society today, and shed some light on the roots of those issues. One that comes to mind is “One Nation Under Stress” that shows how stress takes a toll on our overall health, but also talks about tools like mindfulness and social support, among others to offset its negative impact.

How do you practice self-care?

Spending time with family and friends. Indoor cycling while listening to pop hits, new and old.

What’s a quote that you carry with you to uplift yourself? – What quote inspires you?

I once read, “You become what you think about – most of the time”. Your beliefs, either positive or negative determine a lot of what you do, and how you do it. Depending on your perspective, your attitude, and what you decide to focus on, your day can go about very differently. That inspires me to think positively.
