Clinical Director - NYC
Since 2011, the Seleni Institute ("Seleni") has been a nationally recognized leader in advancing the emotional and mental health of women and families. We provide high-quality, evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals and families navigating challenges related to fertility, pregnancy and postpartum, loss and grief, and parenting. Services are delivered by experienced clinicians in a welcoming and confidential environment at our Upper East Side clinic.
Seleni is seeking a Clinical Director: a senior clinical leadership role responsible for setting and upholding standards of excellence across Seleni’s clinical practice while maintaining an active clinical caseload and contributing to Seleni’s professional education work. This role is ideal for an experienced, licensed clinician with leadership and supervision experience who wants to continue meaningful patient care while shaping clinical culture, mentoring clinicians, and representing a respected nonprofit in professional education settings. The position is structured as 50% administrative leadership and 50% clinical work, with a guaranteed base salary and additional earning potential through clinical hours beyond core expectations.

Salary: $150,000 per year ($100,000 base leadership salary + up to $50,000 from patient care revenue; 50% leadership / 50% clinical)

Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership & Practice Oversight
Set, uphold, and operationalize clear standards for high-quality, ethical, and effective psychotherapy across Seleni
Define and model “excellent therapy,” including expectations related to clinical judgment, treatment planning, documentation, outcomes, and use of evidence-based approaches
Provide individual and group supervision, case consultation, and clinical guidance to licensed and pre-licensed clinicians
Mentor clinicians through feedback, coaching, and professional development planning
Monitor clinical quality through chart review, treatment planning oversight, and outcome tracking
Ensure compliance with New York State regulations, ethical guidelines, diagnostic standards, and best practices
Partner with executive leadership on clinical policies, systems, and program development
Make thoughtful, values-driven decisions that balance client care, clinician support, and organizational accountability
Direct Clinical Care
Maintain an average caseload of 10–12 clients per week
Provide high-quality psychotherapy aligned with Seleni’s mission and clinical standards
Model strong clinical boundaries, documentation practices, and ethical decision-making
Option to take on additional clinical hours beyond core expectations for additional compensation
Education, Training & External Representation
Serve as a visible clinical representative of Seleni in professional and brand-facing settings
Participate in CE and CME programming, including panels, trainings, workshops, and lectures for healthcare professionals
Collaborate with Seleni’s education team to develop clinically rigorous, evidence-informed educational content
Present clinical perspectives on topics aligned with Seleni’s mission (e.g., reproductive mental health, family building, relationships, life transitions, and lifespan mental health)
Engage confidently with interdisciplinary audiences, including physicians, mental health clinicians, and allied healthcare professionals
Ensure educational offerings reflect current best practices, ethical standards, and clinical depth
Act as a trusted clinical voice for Seleni within the broader professional community
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree or doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or a related field
Active, unrestricted New York State clinical license (LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent)
Diagnostic privilege
Minimum 7 years post-licensure direct clinical experience
Minimum 2 years of clinical supervision experience
Strong grounding in evidence-based treatment, ethical practice, and clinical documentation
Demonstrated ability to mentor clinicians while maintaining accountability within a supportive culture
Preferred Qualifications
Experience teaching, training, or presenting in professional education settings
Comfort serving in a public-facing or representative role for a mission-driven organization
Background that bridges private clinical practice with professional or academic education
